Especially with a procedure like cosmetic tooth bonding in Bloomington. If you want to correct relatively minor flaws in your smile, bonding is simple, fast, and cost-effective. In fact, Dr. Barco can usually do it in just one visit, while still making significant changes to your smile. If you’d like to know how cosmetic bonding can help you, contact us today to schedule a consultation. Having a smile you love is easier than you think!

WHAT IS COSMETIC TOOTH BONDING?

Just as the name implies, cosmetic tooth bonding involves “bonding ” a tooth-colored composite material to the teeth. This material is strong and durable and can be used in many ways, including repairing cavities and correcting cosmetic issues. Since Dr. Barco will match it to the existing color of your teeth, it will blend in perfectly and look very natural. However, some of our patients have opted for a whitening treatment first to help their smile look its best after their procedure is completed.

WHICH FLAWS CAN YOU CORRECT WITH COSMETIC BONDING?

Cosmetic bonding is very versatile. It’s great for repairing small to moderate cavities on the front teeth because it replaces damaged enamel and beautifully restores a tooth’s appearance at the same time. And, with many years of experience as a dentist in Bloomington, Dr. Barco can use bonding to correct all of the following issues as well:

  • Chips and cracks
  • Teeth that appear shorter than the others
  • Stains and discolorations
  • Small gaps between the front teeth
  • Replacement of metal fillings
  • Broken teeth

However, our goal is to make sure that you love your final results, so we may recommend a different treatment for more severe issues.

WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE LIKE?

Cosmetic tooth bonding is very easy and, in many cases, doesn’t require numbing beforehand. It typically takes 30-60 minutes per tooth and has little to no downtime afterward, so you can resume your normal activities right away.

First, we’ll put an “etching” solution on your tooth, which roughens the surface to help the bonding material adhere better. Then we’ll apply the material to your teeth and spend time shaping it to match the size, shape, and proportion of your other teeth. Next, we’ll “cure” it with a special light to harden and set the material and give it a final polish so it feels slick and smooth.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF COSMETIC BONDING?

In addition to being fast and easy, bonding provides many additional benefits as well:

  • It’s an affordable way to make significant changes to your smile.
  • It’s very natural looking, so no one will know you’ve had dental work.
  • With proper maintenance, your bonding can last at least 5-10 years. This includes good oral hygiene habits, regular checkups, and avoiding chewing on things like ice, pens, and hard candy.
